JVP committed to safeguard UPFA policies - Anura Kumara

AGRICULTURE and Livestock Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday stressed that the JVP is dedicated to implement the proposals included in the UPFA manifesto which is the firm wish of the country's people.

Addressing the National Convention of Dairy Farmers at the New Town Hall, Colombo, Dissanayake noted that the JVP always acts on the policies agreed upon by the SLFP and the JVP in the UPFA manifesto. The JVP is fully committed to safeguard these policies.

The UPFA manifesto does not contain only the policies of the SLFP or JVP. Facts included in the UPFA manifesto are agreed upon by both parties, the SLFP and the JVP, he said.

"At the 2004 General Election, people elected the UPFA Government with the objective of implementing these policies of the manifesto. Therefore the sole intention of the JVP is to fulfil the people's wish," he said.

The Minister said there are discussions and disputes between the SLFP and the JVP on the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) issue.

The JVP stand on the CEB issue is that the proposed changes of the CEB should be based within the organisation.
