Nuwara-Eliya horse racing closes on a grand note

The Nuwara Eliya horse racing came to an end on Saturday with eight races worked off for the day. 'Hi Gorgeous' owned by Nigel Austin became the top horse this season winning all its four races for the season.

On Saturday Ashok Kumar took the horse to the winning post to carry away the Nescafe Cup for thoroughbred horses class I; pushing back 'Amazon Bronze' owned by Chamari Jayaratne to second slot. Two horses owned by Chamari Jayaratne made two victories on the final day both ridden by Kishor Kumar. 'Cadmium' too made a good season winning four races this season.

Indian jockey D. Kareen was declared as the champion jockey for the 2005 season. Jayantha Wijesinghe stables produced the highest number of winners for the season and carried away the award.

On the final day of racing Chamari Jayaratne had two winners under her name while Ashok Kumar and Indian jockey M. D. Kareen rode two winners each to end a well-organised racing season for the large number of holiday makers in Nuwara Eliya.
