Ton-up Jayantha gives HNB k/o title

Hatton National Bank's skipper Saman Jayantha, the Sri Lankan
cricketer led by the front, by making a dashing 114 runs, which laid the
foundation for his team to win the 'Singer' MCA k/o cricket final
beating East West marketing at the SSC grounds yesterday.
Hatton National Bank having been sent into bat lost opener Aviska
Gunewardena cheaply to be 12 for 1, but with one drop wicket keeper
batsman Prasanna Jayawardene joining Saman Jayantha the pair entertained
the fair crowd with a splenddid display of batting to put on 177 runs
off 178 balls for the second wicket, Jayantha was the more aggressive of
the two scoring 114 with 5 sixes and 4 fours in 111 balls, whilst
Jayawardene's 62 had 2 sixes and a four, Chinthaka Jayasinghe and
Dilshan chipped in with 30 and 26 respectively for HNB end their 50
overs at 309 for 7.
Sajith Fernando and Muthumudalige Pushpakumara were the wicket takers
for East West Marketing. Chasing 310 runs for victory East West
marketing having lost four early wickets at 77 and with wickets falling
at regular intervals conceded defeat by being all out for 203 in 44.1
overs and 188 mts.
Rashan Pieris stood out with 39 runs with Dilshan taking 3 wickets
and Prasanna Jayawardena apart from his batting accounted for 4 victims
behind the stumps. |
