Organic fertilizer manufacturing plant to be set up in Lanka

An organic fertiliser manufacturing project using M-Rin agricultural technique, a modern Japanese technology which helps produce healthy, fresh and safe crops will be set up in Sri Lanka by the Mizuho Agro Company Pvt. Ltd, in collaboration with the Mizuho Co.Ltd in Japan.

The initial investment for the project is Rs. 5 million. In order to introduce this technology to Sri Lanka, a Japanese delegation comprising company's Chairman Nobuo Ohashi and President Masami Ohashi and the field assistants is now in Sri Lanka to select a suitable site for the factory. They will visit Pundalu Oya in Nuwara Eliya to test this technique on various crop fields.

Managing Director of the Mizuho Agro Company Pvt. Ltd, A.M. Kuthub Deen said that the aim of the project is to promote the usage of organic fertilisers in local farmers, distributors and consumers.

The M-Rin technique is more dynamic than the crops produced through conventional agriculture. "The strength to maintain freshness of crops produced through M-Rin technique is very high, therefore it will maintain the crops' freshness on all stages of distribution until it reaches to the consumers," he said.

The company will manufacture solid fertilisers and insecticide under the M-Rin brand.

"We have planned to expand our export market by 85 percent in future with the partnership of Board of Investment. The project will create more job opportunities as well," Deen said.

"Today organic fertilisers are considered to be the best natural method to grow plants. It is a solution to grow plants and get maximum productivity. These plants would produce very fresh and nutrient foods important for healthy life," Deen said.

"M-Rin fertilisers and insecticides are already having good demand in Japan, China and Korea. A new organic fertiliser manufacturing plant of this nature will set up in India shortly" he said.

"Safety of food is a very serious issue. Our parent company has proved it during the past 30 years for our future generations through the M-Rin technique.

It is our company's commitment to continue its research and development of agricultural equipment and technology in pursuit of safer crops that will satisfy the needs of farmers, distributors and consumers," he said.
