A special police team of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) yesterday
commenced investigations into Wednesday's bomb blast near an Indian
restaurant in Kollupitiya.
A Reserve Sub Inspector (RSI) of the Police Communications Division
and two others were injured.
The CCD officers will question the Sub Inspector in connection with
the explosion. He had allegedly accompanied a drug kingpin in
Maligawatte to the restaurant on Wednesday night.
The RSI is receiving medical treatment under police security at the
National Hospital, the Police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the RSI and two others had
left the restaurant around 10.45 pm.
They were about to leave the premises in a police vehicle when the
bomb went off. The police suspect that the bomb was fixed to the jeep.
It had been revealed that the RSI was in civvies.
Director CCD, SSP Sarath Lugoda told the Daily News yesterday that
the special police team is investigating to ascertain whether the
explosion was caused by a grenade or explosives concealed inside the
jeep. The CCD Director is conducting further investigations on the
direction of Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath. |
