Jeevan briefs cricket team

SPORTS and Youth Affairs Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga convened all players in the Sri Lanka Cricket team to a discussion to obtain their views on the present crisis relating to cricket.

Cricket Interim Committee members appointed by the Minister were allowed to express their views on the crisis and the cricketers were given the opportunity to question them on any problems confronting them at the moment.

The Interim Committee comprised Jayantha Dharmadasa (President), Rienzie Wijetilleke, Adil Hasin, Kumar Weerasooriya, Damien Fernando and Triffon Mirendo.

Kumaratunga said by appointing an Interim Cricket Committee he hoped to save the Cricket Control Board from the ever deteriorating financial crisis and create an atmosphere conducive to uphold the morale and independence of the members of the Sri Lanka Cricket team.

"Thus we can preserve the fame and dignity we have so far won both locally and internationally in good stead", he said Kumaratunga requested the players to be concerned solely with their fine performance and if they have any problems, they could discuss with him who has pledged to tackle any situation on their behalf.

Captain Marvan Atapattu also spoke.
