SLC on salaries for employees

In a media release sent to the Editor, Daily News, SLC media manager Ray Illangakoon states:

It has been recently reported in the media quoting the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs that salaries to the tune of Rs. 8.5 Million is being paid by SLC for 36 employees. The report does not specify whether this payment is for a month or a year and is misleading.

The SLC wishes to categorically state that this information attributed to the Minister is incorrect. The correct position is that the average monthly bill of the SLC staff including Management, Secretarial, Clerical and the local coaches assigned to the respective Divisions of Administration, Finance, Operations, Media and Marketing total to approximately Rs. 3.0 Million per month for a total of 85 employees currently employed by the SLC.

SLC also wishes to add that this has been the pattern of employment during the past four years covering the periods 2001, 2002, 2003 and 20004 which includes the interim administrations of 2001 and 2002. The average salary bills during these periods have varied between 3.0 million to 3.25 million per month with the number of employees varying between 70 to 98 employees for the same period.
