Gunmen fire on EPDP van, Policeman injured
 

A Police sergeant was wounded when an unidentified gunmen opened fire on the van in which he was travelling with a group of EPDP cadres.

The incident took place yesterday at noon in Aarumuhaththaan Kudiyiruppu, 12 kilometres north of Batticaloa according to police.

The van was damaged in the firing, but the six EPDP cadres in the vehicle escaped unhurt, Police said.

The EPDP cadres were returning from Batticaloa to their camp in Kommathurai. The injured policeman is Piyal Perera

The assailants lobbed a grenade at the van before firing on it.

The gunmen fired on the EPDP vehicle with a t-56 assault rifle, Police said.
