TU leader threatened for exposing corruptions

Kandy District Secretary of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Jathika Prawahana
Sewaka Sangamaya P.B. Ariyapala has lodged a complain at the police
headquarters Kandy that a letter received by him had demanded he resign
from his office in the trade union within the next 7 days or face with
the death.
He is working as a depot inspector at the Kandy South Depot of the
Mahanuwara Bus Company Limited, and he has received the letter in
question at his office by post on March 29.
He has been threatened further that he should put up a banner
opposite the depot announcing his resignation.
Criminal Investigation Department is now inquiring into a spate of
complains against some of directors and higher officials of involving in
corrupt practices involving lakhs of funds of the bus company.
The union secretary claimed that trade unionists including himself
had explained matters against those officials in connection with their
involvement in the alleged corrupt practices, and as a result he was
being threatened. |
