Taiwan business people welcome anti-Secession Law

BEIJING, Wednesday (Xinhua) The newly-enacted Anti-Secession Law, which is aimed at preventing Taiwan's secession from the country, was warmly welcomed by the Taiwan business people on the Chinese mainland.

"I support the law and I think the majority of the Taiwan business people share my opinion.

The law targets 'Taiwan independence' secessionists and it aims at protecting the fundamental rights and interests of Taiwan compatriots," said Oliver Ho, president of the Taiwan Investors Association in Zhangzhou, eastern Fujian Province, the ancestral hometown for many Taiwan people.

"The zero-opposition when approving the law just shows the strong determination and confidence of Chinese government to safeguard the country's territory integrity," he said.

"I also notice that there are articles in the law, which promote exchanges between the people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, encourage and facilitate economic cooperation - That is really encouraging information for us," said Ho.

Meanwhile the Cuban government spoke highly of China's newly adopted Anti-Secession Law and reiterated its support of the one-China principle on Tuesday. "Cuba, from the very triumph of the Revolution, has supported the territorial integrity of China and the cause of the Chinese national reunification," Cuba's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement also expressed support for the Anti-Secession Law passed Monday by China's National People's Congress, saying the legislation will help promote peaceful reunification, maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and safeguard the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of China, it said.

Earlier France firmly supports China's policy for reunification and adheres to the one-China principle after the adoption of China's Anti-Secession Law, deputy foreign ministry spokeswoman Cecile Pozzo di Borgo said Tuesday.

Referring to the newly passed Anti-Secession Law, she said France understands China's stance on promoting dialogue across the Taiwan Straits and firmly supports China's efforts to realize national reunification. Meanwhile Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa hailed the newly passed Anti-Secession Law in China, saying Zambia firmly supports China's efforts in safeguarding state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Meanwhile the Kuwaiti government and parliament support China's adoption of the Anti-Secession Law, Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Jasim Mohmmad Al-Kharafi said.

The official made the statement at a meeting with Chinese ambassador Wu Jiuhong. Kuwait believes the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law will contribute to China's stability, development and reunification, Al- Kharafi said.
