LTTE Wanni faction plot bared

LTTE Wanni faction cadres, who killed two LTTE Karuna faction cadres at Karapola on Monday night, were reportedly hatching a plot with the help of some incited mobs in the area to portray the murder of those two LTTE youths as the work of LTTE Karuna faction itself, the Army Headquarters reported yesterday.

According to the report this plot was bared Wednesday (16) afternoon when LTTE Wanni faction men incited villagers and LTTE supporters to walk the streets with the coffins of slain youths, forcing them to announce that LTTE Karuna faction men themselves have carried out the brutal assassination with a view to discrediting LTTE Wanni cadres.

The murder of those two LTTE youths has been however been carried out by a group from the LTTE Wanni faction, led by an LTTE cadre called Madhi, according to confirmed information received by troops and the Police, the report added.

The Army on March 15, based on initial information that reached the Army inadvertently reported that those murdered youths were from LTTE Wanni faction, but it has now been confirmed otherwise.

On Wednesday (16) morning, a group of about 300 uniform-clad school children, led by LTTE men along with another mob of about 200 people, were forced to proceed towards Sevanapitiya junction in a protest march after LTTE men got down schoolchildren in lorries.

Those mobs went on shouting slogans against factional killings and began to disrupt traffic along the main road after they marched up to Sevanapitiya junction but the Assistant Government Agent for the area, Police authorities along with the Brigade Commander in the area after talking to the protesters at about 12 noon made them disperse peacefully.

Meanwhile on Tuesday night LTTE gunmen on three motorbikes, in what was seen as an act of revenge, have shot and killed a youngster whose relatives work for Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) and Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) and robbed his motorbike when he was in the general area of Kaludawali, Mankerny around 8.30 p.m. military sources added.

The victim, M.W. Jaya Ganeshan (23) of No. 18, Main Rd, Chenkalady, who has been under LTTE threat because of anti-LTTE political work being carried out by his own brother who supports EPRLF and the brother-in law (TELO) whose whereabouts the LTTE wanted to learn from him.

Repeated LTTE threats on his life, according to the wife of the deceased, Ms. W. Nilandani made her husband go underground and flee the area to live in a place on the Hospital Rd, Chettipalai, Kalawanchikudi in fear. She had also gone on record saying that her slain husband was earlier severely beaten by LTTE men after storming his house but he never wanted to disclose whereabouts of his brother or brother-in law.

He came under LTTE fire at close range after being waylaid by motorbike-riding LTTE men while he was on his motorbike (EP HL 6626) towards Kalawanchikudy town to fetch some food items along with two of his colleagues, T. Achchudan and K.K. Ranjan but they escaped unhurt.

However, the LTTE gunmen after their attack on the youngster snatched their motorbike and took it away with them to an undisclosed location while the victim remained lying in a pool of blood due to fatal gunshot injuries.

The victim, according to the Police, has died on the spot due to profuse bleeding. Feared fellow-riders of the victim panicked and ran away immediately after LTTE gunned down their comrade.

The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission has been informed about the latest killing.
