U.S. Diplomatic security officers honour Sri Lankan security guard
killed in terrorist attack
Colombo, March 16, 2005; U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey J. Lunstead
presented the family of fallen Sri Lankan security guard Mohamed Jaffur
Sadiq with a memorial plaque and a cash donation Wednesday, March 15, at
the U.S. Embassy. Mr. Sadiq was murdered on December 6, 2004 during the
terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where he
served as a security guard.
The Diplomatic Security Officers' Foundation commissioned the
memorial gift to commemorate Mr. Sadiq's brave service to the U.S.
Government and to assist his family in their time of need U.S.
Diplomatic Security Officers' serving around the world contributed to
the fund, states a US Embassy press release.
Diplomatic Security Officers' Foundation President Charles E. Sparks
stated that the organization is "pleased to be able to help surviving
family members by providing assistance at this trying time. We hope the
funds will enable them to transition through this difficult period and
brighten their future prospects."
The victim's father W.M.M.L. Fahurdeen, received the memorial gift
from Ambassador Lunstead in the Ambassador's office. Ambassador Lunstead
noted that Mr. Sadiq's death underlined yet again the need for all
nations to join together in combating the scourge of terrorism. Sadiq is
survived by his parents, four brothers and one sister. |
