Japanese community here donate Rs. 5.84 m for tsunami relief
The Japanese community and firms in Sri Lanka has donated Rs. 4.38
million to the President's Fund to be utilised in restoring civil life
in Tsunami affected areas in Sri Lanka.
This donation, on behalf of Japanese community, was handed over by
Chairman of the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association (JCIA) in Sri
Lanka and General Manager of Kumagai Gumi CO., Ltd, Kosei Fujikawa,
Chairman of Japanese Solidarity Association (JSA) and Chief
Representative of Marubeni Corp, Shigetoshi Tsuchiya and Secretary
General of JCIA and Resident Representative of JETRO Colombo Yasuyuki
Ishiga at a recent visit they made to the President Chandrika
Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
There are 56 Japanese companies in JCIA and over 300 members in JSA.
Further, another cash donation Rs. 1.46 million was handed over to IGP
Chandra Fernando to be utilised in reconstruction of damaged houses of
police officers through the "Police Families Welfare Association Tsunami
Disaster Relief Fund". |
