Aman opens second resort in Tangalle
Amanresorts marks the continued development of a strong presence in
Sri Lanka with the opening of a second resort property, Amanwella in
Tangalle today.
Sited within a mature coconut grove fronting a crescent shaped beach
near the Tangalle town in southern Sri Lanka, this beachfront resort
joins a sister property in Galle, Amangalla, which was opened last year.
"We're quite thrilled that we've been able to open on schedule,"
stated Amanresorts' Executive Director, Development, Greg Sirois. "We
were very fortunate that the construction site escaped the effects of
the tsunami. Since then, we've been aiding the recovery efforts along
the south coast in every way possible and working hard to have the
resort ready to go following Amangalla's opening in Galle."
The Restaurant is perched eight metres above the sea and offers
stunning views across the pool towards the coconut grove and the beach.
Table seating is on two elevated levels and outdoor seating is available
on another lower level. Inside the restaurant, doors open onto an
internal grassed courtyard landscaped with frangipane trees and
reflecting pools. The cuisine mixes Asian and Mediterranean dishes with
an emphasis on fresh, locally caught seafood from the Indian Ocean.
Amanresort's Executive Director, Marketing, Trina Dingler Ebert said,
"There's such a rich fabricin Sri Lanka for tourism development,
especially cultural, nature or adventure-based experiences. We're
pleased to be part of meeting the rising demand from travellers to see
and experience Sri Lanka. The country will certainly continue to be an
area of growth for us."
Amanresorts recommends that its guests combine stays in both
Amangalla and Amanwella. Right inside Galle Fort, declared a World
Heritage site, Amangalla is the ideal starting point for guests'
discovery of Sri Lanka's southern coast. The resort provides guests the
opportunity to explore the wealth of Sri Lanka's historical richness and
its cultural attractions.
Then, proceeding eat to Amanwella, only a two-hour drive away in
Tangalle, guests can experience the balmy ambience of a truly
contemporary beach resort. Day trips from Amanwella to nearby Bundala
National Park or Uda Walawe National Park offer guests a chance to spot
wild elephant herds, spotted deer, wild boar and huge numbers of
migratory birds.
Amanresorts was founded by Adrian Zecha who envisioned a collection
of intimate retreats in beautiful surrounds with the unassuming, warm
hospitality of a gracious private residence. The first resort, Amanpuri
(place of peace) in Phuket, Thailand, introduced the concept.
Amanresorts has grown to encompass 17 resorts around the world Fifteen
of these carry the Aman prefix. |
