A commemorative ceremony to mark the 59th birth anniversary of late Dr. Gamini Abeysekera, a former UNICEF representative in Bangkok and advisor to the Prime Minister of Thailand, will be held at Nalanda College Language Laboratory, Colombo on March 12 at 5.30 p.m.

A highlight will be the setting up of a foundation in his memory called the Dr. Gamini Abeysekera Foundation.

The Foundation dedicated to charity will continue late Dr. Gamini's commitment to children by working towards the improvement of health and education among the less fortunate segments said Dr. Nimal Sandaratne, a close friend of late Dr. Abeysekera.

Dr. Sandaratne in a special message has requested all friends and associates of late Dr. Abeysekara to contribute towards this noble cause by participating in this event.

The late Dr. Abeysekera obtained his PhD in economics from the Wisconsin University in USA. He also served as the Chairman of the National Savings Bank and at the Economic Research Division of the Central Bank for some time.
