Nurses demands granted, no strike
action:
Nightingales in sweet harmony with Govt
NURSES yesterday pledged not to strike again as
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has granted almost all their
demands after an extensive three-hour discussion. "The discussion
was very successful. The Nurses Union has achieved a major victory.
There is no need to resort to trade union action," Ven.
Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera, Chairman of the Public Services United
Nurses Union said.

School reconstruction under way - Education
Ministry
THE Education Ministry in a media communique completely denied the
news item in the Lankadeepa newspaper of March 8 headlined
'Reconstruction of 73 schools stalled due to non availability of
lands'. The item stated that in spite of the preparedness of a large
number of local and foreign investors to reconstruct 73 schools
destroyed by the tsunami, the Government was facing difficulties in
finding lands for this purpose.

BOC, Sampath form largest ATM network
THE state and private sector banking giants, Bank of Ceylon and
Sampath Bank, yesterday signed a landmark agreement in local banking
history to provide wider services to its ATM (Automated Teller
Machine) users. The new extended BOC - Sampath ATM network comprises
over 200 Automated Teller Machines and will be expanded with both
banks planning to add at least 75 more ATMs to the network during
this year.
