Alleged rape case:

UNP Provincial Councillor ordered to produce all relevant documents

Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena yesterday ordered UNP Provincial Councillor Duminda Silva, who is alleged to have raped a teenage girl, to produce all relevant documents required by investigators and to give his specimen handwriting to the investigating officers today, in the presence of the Court Registrar.

National Child Protection Authority told Judge Weerawardena yesterday that the dossier in connection with the investigations into the alleged rape had been forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice.

Nalin Ladduwahetty, senior counsel for Silva told court that his client had already given his specimen hand writing, but if the investigators needed his handwriting for the second time, he was prepared to do so.

Ladduwahetty with U. L. G. Bandara, Jeevatha Jayathillake, Sudath Perera, Deshan Hewavitharana, Namal Perra, U. M. P. M. Madumalee, Aruna Wickremasinghe and Mahee Wijeweera instructed by Sudath Perera Associates appeared for Silva.

The suspect was directed to appear before court on June 16, 2005.
