Korean civil society donates to Lankan NGOs

KOREAN NGOs in the Gwang-ju city in the Jeol-la Southern province of the Republic of Korea has donated through the Korean Embassy, US$ 11,987 to three NGOs in Sri Lanka to assist rehabilitating operations in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster.

Korean NGOs in the Gwangju city collected the donation with the YWCA playing the main role after the tsunami disaster.

US$ 5,000 was donated to the Young Women's Christian Association and US$ 4,000 to the Young Men's Christian Association on March 9.

US$ 2,987 will be donated to the Shelter for Victims (Catholic Media Centre) in Kandy today.

The donation is expected to contribute to the normalisation of daily life of the tsunami affected people.

The civil society in Korea has mobilised efforts to help tsunami affected countries since December 26.
