Choir Competition in aid of school rebuilding
An Inter School Choir Competition organised by the
Rotary Club of Mount Lavinia will be held at the BMICH on March 18 at 6
pm. All profits generated through this program will be channelled to the
Rotary School Rebuilding Aid program - Rotary has undertaken a program
to rebuild tsunami-hit schools in the country.
The main objective of this event is to provide school
children an opportunity to perform in public in order to develop their
self confidence and to enhance their musical skills.
This will also provide them an opportunity to interact
with children from different schools, cultural and religious backgrounds
and also build friendship through music.
"We have received entries from schools in Colombo and
also schools as far away as Matale and Kandy. Each school will perform
two sets of songs, carefully selected by us differing for each category.
We have given them a choice to select one of the set songs and also they
can sing a song of their choice," a club spokesman said.
The songs this year are ranging from classical to pop.
It will be a really interesting evening for music lovers, he added. The
tickets will be available at Lanka Hands, Bullers Road and also with the
club.
The winner of the last year's competition (in the boys
categories) was St Josephs College, the 1st runner up was St Sebastians
