NGOs assist tsunami victims at Seenigama

Seenigama village devastated by tsunami which took away
160 lives and damaged more than half of the houses of 450 families will
be re-modelled by an NGO called 'The Foundation For Goodness'. Veteran
cricketers Muralidharan, Chaminda Vaas and Kusil Gunasekera are pioneers
of this humanitarian service foundation set up about six years before.
Thuyya Handi Nandawathie (44) a mother of four children,
a victim of tsunami has been identified as the most deserving family
needed support. Her husband D. Gamini, a mason by profession died due to
a road accident on December 3 and three weeks after that tragedy tsunami
erased their house with all the household items.
President of the NGO Kusil Gunasekera told 'Daily News'
that new houses will be constructed to all who lost their houses and
water, electricity, sanitary and all other infrastructure facilities
will be provided.
Chairperson of Universal Association for Peace and Love
a human development foundation based in Germany Ursula Beier and some of
her members visited Seenigama on February 27 and pledged to patronise
the scheme to rehabilitate the displaced families and undertook to give
two scholarships to Nandawathie's children to enable them to proceed
with their education. |
