President condoles on passing away of Ven. Rajakeeya Panditha
Anunayake Thera
President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in a
message of condolence on passing away of Ven. Rajakeeya Panditha
Madithiyawela Vijithasena Anunayaka Thera while expressing her deep
sorrow stated that the late Anunayake Thera was in the forefront of all
social and religious activities advising and guiding the rulers whenever
there were threats and intimidation against the Sambuddha Sasana.
The late Ven. Madithiyawela Vijithasena Anunayaka Thera
who was the Anunayaka of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya and the Chief
Incumbent of the Gnanaseeha Thapovana Viharaya, Ratnapura and Siri
Sumana Pirivena Viharaya of Thummodera was the Chancellor of the
Sabaragamuwa University at the time of his passing away.
The Venerable Thera entered the order in 1938 and
attained Higher Ordination in 1943. He was the senior most pupil of the
late Ven. Panditha Henpitagedera Gnanaseeha Nayaka Thera. Her message
recalled:
"I am personally aware of the late Nayaka Thera's
dedication to social and religious activities, a cause he pursued till
he was confined to bed at the final stages of his life. His was a
mission dedicated to endow upon the nation a society that was virtuous
and useful", stated the message.
The late Thera was the 20th Anunayaka of the Ramanna
Nikaya and was acting as the Maha Nayaka of the Chapter until his
demise. His passing away is an unbearable loss to the country.
I convey the sympathies of the government, the people
and my own sympathies on this sad occasion. May the Late Anunayaka Thera
attain the Supreme Bliss of Nirvana, wished the President. |
