I was deeply moved, says Prince Charles
Prince Charles gave a positive assessment of British aid at work helping
Sri Lanka recover from the tsunami disaster, in a report published
yesterday about his stopover in the island.
Charles, in his role as president of the British Red
Cross, visited Batticaloa, where he found it impossible to "describe the
full horror of such a tragedy".
"I was inspired by the resilience of the people I met,
but deeply moved by the trauma they have suffered," he wrote in a
comment in The Sunday Telegraph.
Britain's heir to the throne heartily praised his
countrymen and government for their donation to tsunami aid, which
totalled more than 300 million pounds.
And he said that the British Red Cross was prepared to
continue its work through the next few years, including an
implementation of disaster-preparedness programs. AFP |
