eService to provide online export clearance facility
eService Lanka, the automated cargo clearance service will provide
export clearances online facility for selected non-BoI companies, said
Business Development Manager, Sameera Samarakkody.
The company now handles only sea and air cargo imports
at Colombo, Katunayake and Biyagama but initially it would get online
export clearance for selected non-BoI companies from mid March, he said.
Lanka's long awaiting electronic clearance system is
functioning partly at present. Only about 300 companies out of the
nearly 10,000 companies involved in importing, have migrated online.
Samarakkody said that eServices is offering to rebate a
portion of its charges, based on the volume of business, to get more
people to log into the electronic system.
It has already cut a deal with the local apparel
industry - the largest export trade to use its paperless solution.
Under the MoU signed with the Joint Apparel Association
Forum (JAAF) recently they pay only Rs. 200 and per custom declaration
for their imports, if they channel a total of 9000 clearances, per month
through the online system where as others pay around Rs. 250.
Samarakkody admitted that there are certain bottlenecks
in the process as it does not fully cover the system but he was positive
on, the space for expansion as the number of users are increasing every
week. (RK) |
