Thomian icon of the 40's passes away Oscar Wijesinghe who captained S. Thomas' at cricket, athletics and hockey in the late forties and early fifties passed away on the 16th of February after a long battle with cancer. His famous duels with John De Saram of Royal in the 100, 200 and 400 meters in their university days drew unprecedented crowds. He left for USA along with his wife Babara and, a good many of his closest friends lost contact with this lovable, gentle giant. In a letter to Ronnie Weerakoon, a member of the 1946 Thomain cricket team, his wife Babara informs of his passing away. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and son. The ashes will be brought to Sri Lanka by his son for interment in the family grave - the date of which will be made known later.
