COLOMBO, Tuesday (AFP) - Sri Lanka's celebrated tsunami baby, who was reunited with his parents after a heart-wrenching legal battle, left the country Tuesday to appear on a US television programme. Four-month-old Abilash and his parents Junita and Murugpillai Jeyarajah, who were granted US visas Monday, flew to London at dawn Tuesday, an airport official said. He said their onward travel arrangements were not immediately known but they were headed for New York. The US embassy said it speeded up the issuing of the visas so the family could appear on the "Good Morning America" show on the ABC TV network. Since striking a deal with ABC, the couple have maintained a low profile and have protested against their photographs being taken. "ABC News network has arranged a stay for us in the US where we will interact with the media there and tell our experience in getting the baby," Murugpillai Jeyarajah told AFP last week. The baby boy gained world media attention for surviving the tsunami and for the subsequent legal battle his parents endured to prove he was their child. |
