BONAR Fabrics introduces geotextile products by Anjana Samarasinghe BONAR Technical Fabrics in collaboration with their local dealer Allied Trading and Engineering (Pvt) Ltd introduced their Geotextile products to Sri Lanka recently. Speaking at the product awareness presentation Sales Manager of BONAR Technical Fabrics Keon Van Compernolle said they manufacture woven and non woven geotextiles. Geotextiles are made from yarns and taps of polypropylene and polyester for geotechnical problems, he said. Geotextiles are frequently used in civil engineering earthworks for filtration and separation that preventthe intermixing of dissimilar soil layers. These are also used in erosion control, protecting an adjacent surface or layers that strengthen the soil structure. There are four distinct products, in woven geotextiles. Woven Light product Range WLPR, Woven Heavyweight Product Range WHPR, Woven High Flow Product Range WHFPR and Woven High Strengthen Product Range WHSPR. WLPR is used primarily for separation to prevent good quality granular fill intermixing with the poorer soil below and this separation layer is used in highways, car parks and airport runways. WHPR is used in applications where loadings are more severe. These are also used in coastal erosion schemes. WHFPR is a requirement for the quick escape of excess water and WHSPR is used in construction of vertical walls, steep slops and embankments over soft soil. There are two types of product ranges in non woven geotextiles which are known as Thermally Bonded Non Woven Product range and Needlepunched Non woven product range. These are used as filter between a fill material and protection layers in landfill sites. |
