MIGA to facilitate investment in N-E - Jayantha Dhanapala

Secretary General, Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process, Jayantha Dhanapala said that the Government has invited the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) to facilitate investment in Sri Lanka's North and East.

MIGA which comes under the World Bank Group facilitates investment in developing countries through the provision of investment guarantees against the risks of currency transfer, expropriation, and war and civil disturbance.

It's mission is to promote foreign direct investment into developing countries, in order to support economic growth, reduce poverty and improve people's lives. MIGA 's involvement would give private investors the confidence and comfort they need to make sustainable investments in post-conflict environments.

Dhanapala addressing the HNB Fund Managers Conference last Friday also said that the Colombo Stock Exchange's (CSE) decision to open a branch in Jaffna will be a positive step towards the business activities in the North.
