Cricket-Aid to fishermen's rescue

Cricket-Aid has taken steps to assist the tsunami affected fishing community at the Cricket-Aid relief camp in Matara, to return to their livelihood, by providing them with a 35 foot deep sea fishing vessel worth approximately rupees 300,000.

The official handing over of the vessel to a group of fishermen who are now steadily recovering from their mental trauma will take place on Monday (February 21) at 7.00 a.m. at the Matara beach (behind the main bus stand).

The handing over of the boat and getting these fishermen back on their feet keeps very much in line with Cricket-Aid's long-term plan of rehabilitating those affected by the tsunami.

The fishermen who are receiving the vessel on Monday delighted with the opportunities provided by Cricket-Aid to get back to their livelihood, have pledged to provide fish for the Cricket-Aid relief camp in Matara free of charge.
