Avishka Gunawardena magnificent 209 Opener Avishka Gunawardena hit a magnificent 209 as North Central Province took a massive first innings lead over Western Province on the second day of their inter provincial cricket tournament match played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday. Gunawardena hoisted nine sixes and struck 21 fours while facing a total of 269 deliveries during his knock and also put on 182 runs for the first wicket with Shantha Kalawitigoda. Kandamby turned out to be a stumbling block for the Southerners as he batted with authority, in all he faced 204 balls and batted for 256 minutes keeping one end up while wickets fell from the other end. The best partnership of the innings was between Kandamby and Nisitha Rupasinghe (21). This pair put on 91 for the eighth wicket. Earlier Suraj Mohammed made an unbeaten 91 with 10 fours off 151 deliveries and put on 90 runs for the last wicket with Lasith Malinga who made 27.
