Recognised for the best use of wireless technology: Z Messenger to diversify business interests by Sudarshana Perera Z Messenger, a SMS based marketing company in Sri Lanka will diversify its business interest into marketing of wireless equipment, SMS based interactive programs on TV and on-line opinion polling system soon. The company will venture in to new business following a successful stint in the country since its inception a few years ago. Chief Executive Officer of Z Messenger, Janaka Rupasinghe said that GSM International Organisation has recognised Z Messenger as the best use of wireless technology in emergency situation at recently GSM Award Ceremony in France. "We will also further develop many user friendly SMS based application programs and the company is planning to develop a facility for Shell Gas where customers will be able to purchase gas cylinders via SMS", Rupasinhge said. "SMS is a powerful tool in Sri Lanka due to the rapid mobile phone penetration rate of 42%, which is the highest in South Asia. On a daily basis there are about 1.5 million SMS sent by almost 2.2 million mobile phone users. So SMS has become the fast mode of communication for Sri Lankans and it is affordable", he said. |
