Indian Parliament to adopt tsunami orphans NEW DELHI, Tuesday (AFP) - The Indian parliament will adopt children orphaned by last December's tsunami disaster, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said. Shekhawat, who is also chairman of the upper house of parliament, said the MPs would take the responsibility of education and maintenance of the children, whose numbers are still being tabulated but could easily be in the hundreds, a Press Trust of India report said. All MPs would also contribute 1,100,000 rupees (23,404 dollars) each to set up a fund to provide livelihood to those handicapped by the disaster, he said. |
