Pietersen out of England A tour to Sri Lanka LONDON, Tuesday (Reuters) Kevin Pietersen will not tour the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka with the England A team later this month following his outstanding performances in South Africa. England chairman of selectors David Graveney said the flamboyant batsman would be rested to allow him to recover from a minor injury. Pietersen, born and raised in South Africa but who switched his allegiance to England because he thought he would get more opportunities, scored three hundreds in the seven-match one-day series and averaged 151.33. "We believe that this decision is in Kevin's and England's best interests and he will now undertake pre-season training with his new county, Hampshire," Graveney said on Tuesday. "This break will also ensure that he is able to fully recover from a minor hamstring strain before playing further competitive cricket." England coach Duncan Fletcher said on Monday that Pietersen's performances in South Africa had put him in contention for a place in the test team for this year's Ashes series against Australia. Essex batsman Alastair Cook replaces Pietersen in the A squad. |
