Kumar, Sajith steer CP to victory

Kumar Sangakkara and Sajith Fernando scored half centuries to help Central Province register a comprehensive seven wicket win over Western Province with a day to spare in their inter provincial cricket tournament match played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday.

Sangakkara struck 59 with the aid of two sixes and nine fours and Fernando hit an unbeaten 64 with eleven hits to the ropes as Central Province reached their victory target quite easily.

Western Province: 43 and 278.

Central Province: 133 and 192 for 3 (Sajith Fernando 64 n.o, Kumar Sangakkara 59, Dilhara Fernando 3 for 81) (D.W.)

NCP trounce SP by an innings

North Central Province trounced Southern Province outright by an innings and 157 runs in their inter provincial cricket tournament match concluded at the Rangiri Dambulla international Stadium yesterday. Southern Province trailing by a massive 416 runs on the first innings were dismissed for 259 in their second innings with Nuwan Kulasekera and Upul Chandana doing the damage.

Southern Province: 86 and 259 (Anushka Polonowita 62, Indika de Saram 53, Dhammika Prasad 23, Nuwan Kulasekera 3 for 68, Upul Chandana 3 for 64, Rangana Herath 2 for 32).

North Central Province: 502 for 8 decl.
