ACCA Comfest 2005 in Jaffna

Students from 10 schools in Jaffna will participate for the COMFEST 2005, an All Island Commerce competition for A/L Commerce stream students organised by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

Introduced by ACCA in year 2003, COMFEST aims to harness the analytical skills, team work, general knowledge and presentation skills of outstanding Commerce students necessary for success in higher education and in the professional realm.

In 2003 when ACCA commenced this festival, it was only held in 4 districts, over the last two years they have expanded this project bring with it great enthusiasm among all the participating schools.

This year COMFEST 2005 will start from Jaffna in February and the competition will be conducted in 8 Districts, namely Jaffna, Kandy, Negombo, Gampaha, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura and Colombo with the grand finals scheduled for October 2005.

"As a leading body in the accounting field, it is our duty to groom students toward a better future from an early age, we at ACCA are proud that we can hold an event such this in Jaffna; I believe ACCA is the only professional body in Sri Lanka to organize such an event in Jaffna which in turn helps the participants to inculcate skills that will be immensely beneficial as students pursue higher education" said Ajitha Perera, Manager of ACCA, Sri Lanka.

COMFEST is divided into four sections to test different skills in the commercial arena.

In the 'Wiz Kid' section, one representative of each school answers 10 general questions about current affairs and the surrounding world.

The 'Student Financial Bulletin' has groups of five students from each school put together an impromptu magazine on commerce, which is judged on substance, accuracy, and style. The 'Crossword Puzzle' section is another group assignment, and the 'Ad Act' has students stage a three-minute advertisement judged on clarity of message, originality and creativity.
