Line Ministries to streamline relief operations

The Centre for National Operations set up by the President in the aftermath of the tsunami to coordinate and facilitate the emergency relief work, has planned a process of handing over its functions to Line Ministries and relevant district and provincial authorities in the coming weeks.

A primary function of the CNO which was to collect, collate and analyse relevant data from the affected districts to channel relief will be in the future coordinated by a special cell dedicated for this set up under the Commissioner General of Essential Services (CGES).

Data collection will be also streamlined through the University of Moratuwa Sahana project which commenced recently with the CNO, states a CNO press release.

Food relief will be channelled through the Ministry of Triple R together with the Commissioner General of Essential Services. Similarly health care for the affected families and education services will be undertaken by the relevant Lien Ministries.

The responsibilities connected to the Internally Displaced Persons , Transit Camps, liaison with the District Secretariats, will be the task of the CGES. The CNO will formally hand over these functions within the next few days.
