A country’s national day is as good a time as any for a nation to pause in quiet reflection and rekindle new hope and expectation especially in the aftermath of a national catastrophe as that which descended on the country not long ago. Here on the eve of Sri Lanka’s 57th Independence day anniversary this little girl was caught in the camera eye of our staff photographer Dudley Wickramasinghe under this artillery cannon at the Galle Face Green waving her little national flag looking towards the sea as if in defiance.
