The Sri Lankan housemaid who claims she had industrial cleaning fluid poured over her while at work is now on the road to recovery. Parmeshwari, 27, has taken refuge in the Sri Lankan consulate and is undergoing treatment. Her case has been registered by police and is under investigation, the Gulf News reported yesterday. "I am feeling fine now. The swelling on my hands and legs is slowly subsiding," Parmeshwari told Gulf News. Parmeshwari escaped at 3am from an Egyptian family's house in Ras Al Khaimah, where she had worked for five months. A taxi driver brought her to the consulate. Sources at the consulate told Gulf News she was very weak and had burns on her hands and legs. She was taken to the Iranian Hospital for treatment. "I have no money but the consulate has given me its assurance that I will get justice. I am happy now and feel quite safe. I do not want to go back and work with the same family. "How can I go home? I have no money. I was not paid anything. I was beaten up whenever I demanded my salary and so I did not dare to talk about it any further with my employer or anyone in that family. I was employed for Dh500 a month. "I just had to run away from there and come to the consulate. I have yet to call home as all my contact numbers are in a dairy that I left behind in my employer's house. "I would like to talk to my family very much. But I think I have to wait until the consulate settles things," Parmeshwari said. Parmeshwari said she would rather not go home, as it would only put a burden on her two elder sisters. "I am glad she is recovering well. Her case is under investigation by us and hopefully we will get an outcome soon," said P.D Fernando, consul general of Sri Lanka.
