Benefit concert for tsunami children

Priyadarsini Govind, one of India’s most inspired and dedicated Bharata Natyam exponents and internationally acclaimed dancer will perform at the Bishop’s College Auditorium on Monday, January 31 at 7 p.m. for children affected by the tsunami disaster. This unique event is being organised by the International Centre for Ethnic Studies, Law and Society Trust and the Neelan Tiruchelvam Trust. 

Bid to end shortage:

15,000 nightingales in next three years

In a bid to resolve the existing shortage of Government hospital nurses, the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has decided on a massive recruitment drive which seeks to recruit 5,000 nurses each year for the next three years. This follows instructions issued by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to officials to expedite the recruitment process to further strengthen the health service.

Call for Tsunami Presidential Commission of Inquiry

UPFA Member of Parliament, President's Counsel Wijeyadasa Rajapakse has appealed to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to appoint a Commission of Inquiry consisting of competent members to probe if there were any lapses or omissions on the part of the relevant authorities for failing to communicate to the people of coastal Sri Lanka an advance warning of the tsunami disaster.
