HSBC, Colombo National Museum in Rs.6 million partnership by Anjana Samarasinghe The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) in a bid to preserve the rich cultural and historical heritage of Sri Lanka entered into a Rs. 6 million partnership with the Colombo National Museum to revamp and fully refurbish the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa galleries at the Colombo National Museum. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Anuradhapura Gallery yesterday Minister of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Vijitha Herath said it is important for the Corporate sector to get involved in similar responsibility programs. "I think this is a good example for other corporate members to follow. We invite the corporate sector to join hands with us and to show the world our historical heritage," he said. He said that a program of this nature has not been carried out since 1980. CEO of HSBC Mark Humble said that through this project they we will be able to live up to their reputation as "the world's local bank", we firmly believe that it is essential to foster cultural integration and sensitivity in the countries and communities in which we operate," he said. The revamped Anuradhapura Gallery has been designed to give visitors a more inspirational understanding of the era. Trilingual information panels and neatly arranged artefacts ensure that the visitor is able to experience the glory of civilisation comprehensively. The new display and lighting systems will enhance the beauty of the artefacts and contribute to the viewing pleasure of visitors to the Gallery. |
