U.S. helicopter crash kills 31 Marines - CNN BAGHDAD, Wednesday (Reuters) A U.S. helicopter crash in western Iraq on Wednesday killed 31 American Marines, CNN reported, quoting military officials. A U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad confirmed there were casualties but said he could not give an exact number. Earlier, the U.S. military said a Marine transport helicopter had crashed in the early hours of Wednesday and a search and rescue operation was under way. The statement said casualties would be disclosed later. The military said the crash happened shortly after midnight in the western desert close to the Jordanian border, but it gave no details on the cause. |
