Lectra Monthly Medal Golf by S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports Correspondent The Eighth Lectra Monthly Medal Golf Championship organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by Lectra France Apparel Technologies will be worked off at the Victoria Golf Course on Saturday - January 29th commencing at 7 a.m. With rounds of this competition now being completed the race for three main titles offered is hotting up and keen competition is on the cards. Lectra France Apparel Technologies have now sponsored this championship for the third year and the thanks should go to their genial Chairman Rohan de Silva, himself a top golfer having many titles including the prestigious Ebert's Pot in 2003. This monthly championship has enabled many a young golfer to surface from the golf course at Victoria. Some of the top golfers who are expected to shine at this weekend contest are Binupa Wijesinghe, Priath Fernando, Sam Gunaratne, Roshan Dias, Si Kasthuratne, Chamil Wickremasinghe, Rohan de Silva, Sunil Jayakody, Bo Lindberg, Sampath Hemachandra, Sideth Hemachandra, Steffan de Run, Sidath Wettimuni, Nimal Wettimuni, Peter Wells, Ian Tiat, Vienert Holm and many others. Among the Ladies the fight will be between the versatile Niloo Jayatillaka who will be pitted against the in-form Indira Tibblins who has won two competitions within a fortnight. Also throwing in the challenge will be Manori Jayakoddy from Hyundai Motor Company, Suwen Solvaratnam, Usha de Silva, Anusha Senadeera, Sandie McAndrew, Danushi Senadeera, Roshani Sangani and Chathuri Engman. So its is going to be very tight contest on this challenging course which is looking green and luxuriant but the golfers will have to come out with their skills to come to terms says the Director/General Manager Tony Witham. |
