Ranil's "National Policy" raises concern within UNP

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has convened an all party meeting for tomorrow (28) that will be attended by even certain Non-Governmental Organizations at New Town Hall, Colombo, to announce a National Policy framework for rebuilding the country following the Tsunami catastrophe.

This move by the UNP Leader has triggered strong opposition within the party hierarchy who has reacted with alarm at their leader's attitude to make the Tsunami Disaster a guise to announce his personal political agenda.

According to Sirikotha sources, a certain group of party stalwarts have decided to boycott tomorrow's meeting fearing that their leader was preparing the ground to foster a personal political agenda which can turn out to be an Election Manifesto in the guise of a National Policy.

The dissident group contend that at a time when the general cry is for a consensus for an action plan to retrieve the country in the aftermath of the tsunami, it is inappropriate and unacceptable to announce an election manifesto in the guise of a National Policy.
