Peradeniya special correspondent The Centre for Buddhism (International) CFB(I) held the third in the series of lectures, conducted to commemorate Ven. Soma Thera, at the Sri Pushpadana Society Auditorium at the D. S. Senanayake Vidiya, Kandy, recently. Lecturer, medical therapist, Dr. H. B. Jayasinghe delivering the lecture on 'Karma, Rebecoming and latest scientific medical research' explained several highly researched case studies of persons, recalling their previous lives, when subject to 'regression'. The technique of regression he said, is an advancement on hypnosis by which a person is made to regress beyond the mother's womb on to previous lives. The case studies cited by him were not only his personal findings but those carried out throughout the world. Much research is being done on such case studies especially in European countries, especially as traditional science is unable to satisfactorily explain the experiences narrated by many people when subject to regression, irrespective of race, religion, experience or social standings. One of the interesting cases cited by him was that of an Australian who on recovery after anesthesia spoke of having seen the hospital gutter being blocked by an old shoe. The surgeon on hearing this had it investigated only to have the old shoe produced for him from the gutter to his astonishment. The explanation is by means of the 'astral body' which is set to leave the physical body as and when necessary. Thus the lady mentioned had seen the shoe via the astral body, while the physical body was being subject to surgery. These phenomena he said are not explainable by way of standard scientific theory. It is only 'Quantum Theory' that gives an insight to these extraordinary phenomena which the Lord Buddha had explained via his Dhamma. |
