by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi All political parties in the Hambantota district have reached a consensus on the proposed rehabilitation and renovation projects to be undertaken in the area. This follows a meeting held at Temple Trees on Tuesday (26). The meeting was presided by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse. "At the meeting, it was agreed to set up a committee comprising representatives from all political parties to work in amity as a cohesive unit, a spokesman from the Prime Minister's office said. It will handle the clearing of debris in fishing harbours while expediting the provision of necessary facilities for fishing and identify public needs. The spokesman said consensus was also reached for identifying suitable locations in hazard-free zones and to assure that dwellings to be constructed shall be more than five hundred square feet in extent and suitable lands to be taken over by the Government. Hambantota district UNP MP Sajith Premadasa has offered his unreserved support for the rehabilitation projects under the patronage of Premier Rajapakse. Urban Development Deputy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and district MPs Sajith Premadasa, Vijitha Ranaweera, Dilip Wedaarachchi and District Secretary A. M. Piyasena were also present at the discussion. |
