NSB offers special relief on housing loans

At this moment of national crisis, the National Savings Bank (NSB) has focused their attention on the high degree of social calamity due to the unexpected tsunami tidal wave. Hence, in order to manage the aftermath of the tragic crisis, NSB has decided to offer relief for those who have obtained housing loans from NSB.

Prior attention was given by NSB on rebuilding houses for the needy and uplifting the lives of children by setting up the 'NSB Shelter in Adversity Fund' and NSB, Rupavahini Children's Welfare Fund' in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

"Not only those who were directly affected, but all of us never before have faced such a situation. Two-thirds of the coastal belt of Sri Lanka was hit by the tsunami wave. Thousands of innocent people were drowned in the sea within no time. Not even a trace can be seen of the houses and properties in most affected areas.

As your family bank, NSB wants to make the best effort to look after the ones who have miraculously survived. That is why we decided to offer relief on housing loans. We would like to see the agony free faces again of those who were affected and we are committed to join hands with them to offer relief whatever possible for us.

After all, that is not just a responsibility; but also a duty of NSB, as the only savings bank of the nation." said Eastmen Narangoda, General Manager, NSB.

Applicants who were granted NSB housing loans and were affected by the tsunami have been asked to submit information about their destroyed houses and properties to the nearest National Savings Bank Branch, Postal Banking Branch or to the Credit Division of NSB Head Office. In the absence of the original applicant, an immediate family member or a close relative will be eligible to request for special relief.
