Upward trend continues

The market continued its upward trend yesterday with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) up 9.82 points and the Milanka Price Index (MPI) moving up by 0.50 points.

The ASPI which opened at 1,622.95 points closed at 1,632.77 points while the MPI which opened at 2,259.24 points appreciated to 2,259.74 points.

Trading, power and energy and footwear and textile sectors appreciated while the construction and engineering, banks, finance and insurance and motors sectors declined. A total turnover of Rs. 421.4 million was recorded. The power and energy sector accounted for 43.6% of the total turnover. A total of 3,237 trades were concluded.

Foreign investors were net buyers in the market with purchases of Rs. 160.4 million and sales of Rs. 120.2 million.
