by Sarath Malalasekera The body of the foreign woman found at the Yala sanctuary last week was identified as Yukito Saiton by her father, Hirotami Saiton and her brother-in-law Kazuya Tanaka yesterday. The two close relatives, father and the brother in law, of the dead woman yesterday thanked Inspector General of Police Chandra Fernando and DIG Jayantha Wickremaratne, who is in charge of the Police Diasaster Management Team Control Centre, for the excellent work done to trace the foreign nationals who were affected following the December 26 Tsunami. A number of items including a Digital camera, two chop sticks, an umbnrella, used clothes such as gloves, scarf and several documents which were found near the body was also handed over to the relations of the deceased at the IGP's office yesterday. The identity of the deceased was established after checking the passport number found in one of the bills traced in her belongings which were recovered near her body at Yala. Saiton and Tanaka accompanied by Japanese Embassy Second Secretary Masayuki Yasuda who met the IGP and DIG Wickremaratne at the Police Headquarters yesterday morning said that they were ever greatful to Sri Lanka Police for handing over the body of their close relation and her belongings which was found in the Yala scantuary by a Police team attached to the Tissamaharama Police station. The body was recovered by the two special police teams deployed to inquire into several incidents at the Yala. |
