Cricket Aid project in full swing

The 'Cricket Aid' project, launched by Sri Lanka Cricket to help the unfortunate victims of the recent tsunami tragedy, is in full swing. President of the Cricket Aid, Thilanga Sumathipala and a team of cricket officials, visited Eastern Sri Lanka over the weekend to hand over a load of relief goods as well as the get first hand information for their proposed Cricket Village there. The village with 50 houses, is one of the four to be built by Cricket Aid in all four corners of the island.

The Cricket Aid team first toured Ampara and then headed for a meeting with Minister Ferial Ashroff who warmly welcome Sumathipala and his men. The former SLC president handed over 40 tents for the benefit of the displaced persons of Karaithivu.

They also had discussions with the Government Agent of Ampara and Divisional Secretaries of Pothuvil, Damana and Lahugala. When informed about the needs of 102 displaced children of Ullai Singhala School, Sumathipala made arrangements to provide them books and other needs worth Rs. 750/- for each child. Five tents too were given to the affected people in Ullai.

The Cricket Aid officials also inspected a land at Pansalgoda on Pothuvila-Lahugala road.

They found it suitable for the construction of 50 houses for those who were affected in Eastern Province. The Cricket Aid targets to raise a minimum of USD three million to complete their goals, which includes 200 houses in four villages.
