Film review

Long awaited film released

Jananam (Birth)

The long awaited movie Jananam has been released after almost three years. The movie deals with the theme of student revolution which was the trend a few years back. There is nothing new and fresh in the story.

The director has tried to focus fully on the problems faced by unemployed youth without getting out of track. As the film was in the box for too long, scenes have been cut-off and the length of the film has been shortened. Even though it has been condensed the film is tedious and lengthy.

There is no importance to the heroine and the other sub-ordinate actors except the main actors. Inappropriate background music has been given which in turn increases the boredom.

Surya, played by Arun Kumar, is an MBA student who stands against corrupt politicians. He stands up on behalf of the educated youngsters who have been demanded bribe for job offers from the staff in the employment exchange. He gathers a bunch of students to stand against the government reforms.

Being the son of an ex-military, Nasser, Surya has the chance to become a businessman but he shows interest in protests against politicians who ruin the life of talented youngsters for their own benefit.

A flashback is shown to rationalize the acts of Arun. In this venture he loses some of his friends. The film ends showing how he achieves his goal with the help of Raghuvaran, a famous writer.

The film conveys its message without any confusion but struggles a bit to convey whether approaching politicians with violence or peace talk is the solution to end corruption.

The flashback is very poignant as it is the foundation for the strength of the film. The build up of emotions to value education is dramatic but there is no choice as it is the main theme of the film.

The film begins with violence and finds the solution in peace talks. The story is weak and so is the screen play. The director focuses more on his punch dialogues and student revolution rather than building a story with flowing scenes to stimulate interest. The end is quite predictable.

Arun Kumar is one of those rare performers who are struggling to get a firm place in the top star list. He has performed well giving a plus point to the film. Priyanka Trivedi showed up in only a few scenes and she has been replaced by another heroine just for one song.

As the film is fully action based there is no space for other genres but to amplify the length of the film Vadivel's separate comedy track has been included. The comedies done by Vadivel are hilarious these days and this film is no exception.

Photography shines at some places but much faster pace will be proper for these kinds of action films. No one other than Arun Kumar has worked hard for this film. If others had also dedicated their hard work for this film, it could have been better. Jananam could have been made more appealing.
