UK Buddhist centre to assist tsunami victims

The International Centre for Education, Meditation, Psychotherapy & Counselling, Sri Lanka Social and Cultural Organisation and Friends of Lanka for Aid Mentoring and Education have pledged to build an orphanage for 100 children who had lost their kith and kin in the tsunami disaster.

The organisations operate under the aegis of Letchworth Dhamma Nikethanaya, 69, Pix Road, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire. (Tel/Fax:- 01462-641688).

The organisations conducted a short term emergency relief project which has so far raised a substantial amount of money to provide immediate relief; sent two 40 foot containers by ship full of medical supplies, food, clothes, housing equipment and stationery. There are at least a further two containers worth of aid still to be shipped.

In a news release, the organisations said children for the orphanage will be selected from all tsunami-hit areas.

Further details can be obtained from Ven. Nakkhawatte Sudhotha Thera, Sunandaramaya, Watugedara (091 2257965) and from Ven. Akurala Samitha Thera, Letchworth Dhamma Nikethanaya (Tel/Fax 44 1462 641688).
